How to Buy Discount Tickets to Disney World

Discount Disney Tickets

It’s no secret that a trip to Disney is nothing short of expensive, but with a little bit of pre-planning you can save quite a bit of money by buying your tickets in advance through one of Orlando’s authorized discount ticket brokers.

Reputable Discount Ticket Companies

There are two major companies that specialize in discount tickets to all of Orlando’s theme parks. We highly recommend that you stick with an authorized and reputable company, because there are a lot of scams targeting tourists in the Orlando area.

Best of Orlando is our favorite ticket broker. Their customer service is top-notch and they offer discounts on so many different experiences in Orlando. Before you purchase anything related to your upcoming Orlando trip you should take a look at Best of Orlando’s site, because there is a very good chance that they will have some sort of discount available. Best of Orlando has an “A” rating with the Better Business Bureau and has no listed complaints. This is extremely impressive considering they sell an estimated 4 million tickets per year. We also like that fact thatin the event that you have an issue, they are easily accessible by telephone or in person at their ticketing center.

Undercover Tourist is another big name in discount tickets and they have received quite a bit of press from national media which helps reassure us that they are the real deal. They too offer discounts on tickets to all the parks, but they don’t have as many options as Best of Orlando. You can read our full review of Undercover Tourist here.

Where Not to Buy Tickets

As soon as you get into Orlando you’ll start seeing stands at gas stations and rest areas trying to sell discounted tickets. Do not buy from these roadside sellers. Some of them may be reputable, but there are a number of scams that target poor innocent tourists trying to save money. You’d be much better off buying tickets through a name-brand company that has a reputable history.

What are the risks involved in buying from one of these roadside sellers? Well for one, the tickets could be expired or counterfeit. Imagine how awful it would be to find out at the main entrance that your tickets are a sham. In our opinion it isn’t worth the risk when you can get tickets online from a real company.

Never buy tickets from eBay or Craigslist either. This is just asking for trouble and a lot of people try to sell there tickets with remaining days left, remember that when you enter the park you are asked to scan your finger prints. This makes tickets unable to be transferred from one person to the next. You cannot gain access to the parks, through someone else’s ticket.

You’ll also find a number of timeshare properties offering free tickets if you participate in one of their tours. If you participate in one of these tours you will be forced to sit through a long day of sales pitches. Their goal is to sell you on buying a week of vacation time at their resort. Is it honestly worth an entire day of your vacation just to get one or two free tickets? We highly doubt it.

Keep in mind the table above shows prices for Best Of Orlando and doesn’t include children’s tickets, which are somewhat cheaper.

Obviously the longer you stay the larger the discounts, but regardless the numbers add up quickly to a rather large savings. You can easily apply this savings towards another night in Orlando, or maybe a nice dinner out to one of Orlando’s premier dining establishments. The possibilities are endless, but we’re certain you can find a better way to spend the money than on full-priced tickets.

Which Ticket Is the Best?

Well, this is subject to how long you plan on staying in Orlando and what you plan to do while you are here. You first need to figure out how many days you want to spend between Disney, SeaWorld, and Universal (remember that you can pre-purchase discounted tickets to all Orlando’s theme parks). For Disney tickets we recommend buying park hopper tickets so you will have the ability to visit multiple parks in one day. For example, Animal Kingdom usually closes much earlier than the rest of the parks. You may want to spend the day at Animal Kingdom and then make your way over to the Magic Kingdom to hit some more rides and catch the fireworks.

If you’re planning a longer stay to Disney or plan on visiting the parks multiple times throughout the year, then an annual pass is something for you to consider. Like regular tickets, annual passes can be bought online through Best Of Orlando for a significant savings. Annual pass holders are entitled to additional discounts.

Below are just a few of the many discounts associated with an annual pass:

10 % – 20% off Disney dining experiences
Free Parking (Currently $15 per vehicle)
10% off Disney merchandise
Special rates on hotel rooms

Disney also offers a premium annual pass, which includes even more discounts and unlimited access to other Walt Disney World amenities.

Additional Premium Annual Pass discounts:
Unlimited free golfing at Disney’s Oak Trail (normally $38 per player)
Unlimited access to Disney Quest (normally $48.50 per day)
Unlimited access to both Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach (normally $56.45 per day)

Some people even get creative and purchase one annual pass in order to get the hotel room discounts, dining discounts and free parking. It’s really up to you whether or not you find the value in buying a single annual pass, but for some families the savings does make sense.

If you visit Disney every year or think that you would like to make a second trip again within the next year, remember that you can book ahead and as long as the trip is within the year timeframe of your annual pass you’ll be able to take advantage of the special room rates.

Best of Orlando vs. Undercover Tourist – Which is better?

The most important factor to remember between these two companies is that both are reputable companies that you should feel confident purchasing through. With that said we have to admit that we are big fans of Best of Orlando for a number of reasons, mostly because of the wide range of discounts they offer and their outstanding customer service.

Are These Tickets RFID Compatible?

Yes these are RFID tickets meaning that they will work with Disney’s new Fastpass+ plus system. If you aren’t familiar with Disney’s new Fastpass+ system, you can read more about it here. For those just looking for a quick summary, Fastpass+ allows you to reserve access to certain rides and experiences through Disney’s My Disney Experience app or at one of the many Fastpass+ kiosks located throughout the parks. We definitely recommend taking advantage of this because this will allow you to bypass the lines at some of the most popular attractions.

How Do I Get My Tickets?

There are two options for how you get your tickets delivered to you. You can either have them mailed directly to you or if you’re short on time or simply don’t want to wait for snail mail, you have the option to have electronic tickets e-mailed to you. We often find ourselves taking advantage of the electronic tickets for some of Orlando’s other attractions such as CityWalk’s party pass, which gives you access to all of CityWalk’s bars and nightclubs for half the regular cover charge. The convenience of being able to get tickets sent instantly to you is quite convenient for people who want to save money, but don’t want to pre-plan every small detail of their vacation.

Other Ways to Save Money

If you are fairly flexible in your travel dates we recommend traveling during Disney’s slow season also known as their “value season”. Disney’s value season is January – February. While they don’t offer reduced rates on tickets during this time period, you will be able to save quite a bit on hotel accommodations. Fall is usually a really good time to visit the parks as well. In addition to the extra savings, you’ll also take advantage of the nice weather. Remember the best time to visit Disney World is when kids are in school. Even if you have school-aged children of your own, it’s worth it to miss a few days to take advantage of not only the reduced room rates, but also the non-existent crowds. Smaller crowds can translate to a savings as well, because you’ll be able to cover a lot more territory in a shorter amount of time.

Remember that you can also take advantage of additional hotel savings through the ticket brokers.

Best of Orlando currently has relationships with two on-site hotels, the Swan Resort, and the Royal Plaza Hotel at Downtown Disney. An added benefit of booking hotel accommodations through Best of Orlando is their “Best Rate Guarantee”. In the event that you find a better deal on your hotel room than what they offered you, they will match that price and refund you up to $150.
